Thomas Button (15?? - 1617?): Evidence suggests that Thomas Button and family emigrated from England to Holland during the exodus of the Pilgrims between 1609 and 1620 before traveling to America. The cabin-boy on the Mayflower was named William Button, and he is the only person who died on the voyage in 1620. It is unknown whether William was related, but the odds are good. Thomas Button did have a son named William born in 1600, but he married in 1632 and had children.

Records of the Button family and name previous to Thomas Button are unreliable, and it seems to have been a common name in England in the early 1600s.
