ENTRY 22: BEND OVER
---------------------
We join....
....Katya in a flophouse in Limestone,
Adrian in his flat,
Don doing Don-like
things,
Vincent and Elizabeth
talking to the dancer,
and Smythe talking
to the two agents: John Hatch and Christopher
Barnes from MI-5....
They ask 'Mr. Wesson' all about the
warehouse. Smythe (I mean Wesson)
tried to tell the truth, except leaving
Katya out of it, but got
tripped up on the chloroforming. The
agents (well, actually,
Mr. Hatch, since the other didn't
speak the whole time) tried to get
him to give Katya up by threatening
him with a murder charge
otherwise. Smythe, frustrated, tries
to convince the agents of the
truth, that he actually doesn't know
where Katya is.
Shortly after Elizabeth tried to get
some sleep, Hatch and Barnes paid
her a visit. They let her know that
they were willing to give Katya
full immunity in exchange for giving
herself up, and suggested that
Elizabeth get in touch with Katya
to let her know this. She
reluctantly agreed.
Don went to the Naze, investigating
Gavigan's estate, and trying to
convince the town clerk to give him
a map of Gavigan's estate. She
eventually did, helpfully pointing
out the island that the house was
located on.
At around 5pm, all those who tried
to get some sleep during the day
woke up, and congregated at Adrian's
flat. After sharing information,
Don, Elizabeth, Adrian, and Vince
headed on over to Shipley's place to
chat. The creepy mother was there
again, and led the group upstairs to
where Shipley was working by the light
of a dim lamp. Elizabeth got
him to stop painting, at least, by
mentioning that she wanted to
commission a painting. She briefly
described the underground hall from
her bad dream, and he told her to
come back tomorrow, and that he'd
have sketches for her then. When asked
how he came up with his
paintings, he said ironically that
he saw the visions in 'waking
dreams'.
At one point, Vincent needed to use
the restroom. On the way back, he
thought he glimpsed drug paraphenalia
in the mother's room (burning
implements, measuring implements,
and a small container of powder). He
told everyone else this as they walked
away. Elizabeth mentioned that
she had been keeping a look out for
signs above the door (elder or
otherwise), and hadn't seen any.
Back at the ranch, they came up with
a plan for the evening: Elizabeth
would wait in the car with the Pinkerton,
following the truck if it
came, Adrian would stay with Smythe
in the hospital, in case there
were more visitors, and Don and Vincent
would hang out in the Blue
Pyramid.
Once Elizabeth and the Pinkerton got
into place, Katya joined them in
the car. Elizabeth filled Katya in
about the MI-5 agents' offer. At
around 11:45, they saw the truck.
After about 10 minutes (the folks
inside neither saw nor heard anything),
it left again, and the
Pinkerton did his stuff. Very, very,
very well. They followed the
truck to......... (you'll be surprised!
No, really!) Gavigan's
Estate. [Note: The license number
of the truck is 263G.] Elizabeth and
Katya decided it was too dangerous,
in their weakened conditions, to
attempt a full-scale raid; so, they
asked the Pinkerton to drive them
back to London.
After awhile, Elizabeth asked the Pinkerton
whether or not they were
being followed. He quickly determined
that they were being followed by
someone almost as good as he, and
wound up having to drive through a
field to get away from the pursuer.
At around dawn, he pulled over and
slept until the petrol stations opened,
and then drove the weary girls
back to the city.
Meanwhile, Don and Vincent were very
busy. Eventually, they decided to
check out Gavigan's estate on the
off the chance the truck had come,
after all. They decided to get a boat,
and check out the island by
water. Don and Vincent disagreed on
the steps required to get a boat,
and Vincent eventually won. They determined
the owner of 'The Heaving
Bosoms', Peter Stubb, and went to
wake him up. This was, of course, at
1:30 in the morning. He told him that
they were idiots likely to die
if they took the boat out in the middle
of the night (when the usually
bad tides got much worse), and convinced
them (after a lengthy
discussion) to sleep on his couch
until 4:00am, when he would take
them out himself. (For a small fee
of 7 pounds.)
At 4:00, the honorable Mr. Stubb woke
the boys up, gave them a hot
breakfast and appropriate clothing,
and took them out on the
boat. After getting out into the water
a little way, the price went
up. They haggled, and eventually settled
on 14 pounds up front, with
more to come upon their safe return.
He took them to the estate, and pointed
out that the house was on a
different island entirely than the
one the town clerk had pointed
out. The island the house was actually
on was 2 to 3 miles long and
heavily forested, and they saw a faint
trace of smoke on one end. They
convinced the honorable Mr. Stubb
to drop them off, wait for an hour,
and then fleece them some- I mean,
pick them up again.
Moving towards the smoke, they discovered
a clearing, in the middle of
which was a large stele. Upon closer
investigation, they discovered
that it was carved with hieroglyphs
on each side, and also on each
side were a pair of manacles. There
was also a well-trampled path in
one direction. Going up to the stele,
they discovered goo underneath
the manacles and up the side of the
structure. Vincent got a goo
sample, and sketches of the hieroglyphs.
After that, they snuck away
from the clearing in the direction
of the path. They made it about
halfway across the island when they
heard a truck start up, then drive
away.
They went back to the clearing, got
more goo samples, a soil sample,
and then copied the rest of the hieroglyphs.
They then went back to
the boat, and the honorable Mr. Stubb
drove them away.
Everyone made it back to London around 10:00am.
Elizabeth went to Adrian's, where the
others had already gathered with
their goo samples. They showed her
a goo sample, which had by then
turned into a solid, crystalline structure,
enveloping some
paper. They then informed her that,
once upon a time, the paper had
enveloped the goo. She gave them skeptical
looks, set it down on the
table, and proceeded to argue with
them about it. While they were
arguing, the goo burst into extremely
hot flame, leaving a crater in
Adrian's table. They were surprised.
As they discussed their surprise, the
others started to burn. Adrian
took them out of the apartment, and
saw one of them move. He dropped
it on the street, noticed people were
looking at him strangely, and
moved them to an alley. The third
blew up. When Adrian went to check
it out, he noticed that the fourth
was gone. He freaked out, and went
back inside to tell the others. They
laughed at him.
They went to the alley and confirmed
that the fourth sample was, in
fact, gone. They shrugged, and decided
to sleep.
Monday, 23 March, 1925.
At around 3:00, Katya woke up in a
hotel, and noticed that her heart
was not beating. After checking the
room for enemies, she ran out into
the hall, and after 18 seconds, passed
out.
---
At around 3:15, Smythe woke up in his
hospital bed, and noticed that
his heart was not beating. He called
for help and, after 18 seconds,
passed out.
---
At around 3:30, Elizabeth woke up,
and noticed that her heart was not
beating. She called the ambulance
and told them that she was having a
heart attack. After 18 seconds, she
passed out.
---
At around 3:45, Don woke up, and noticed
that his heart was not
beating. He called his manservant
for help. After 18 seconds, he
passed out.
---
At around 4:00, Vincent woke up, and
noticed that his heart was not
beating. He prayed, formed a protective
circle with his own blood
(slashed from his wrist), and after
12 seconds, his heart started
beating again.
---
At around 4:15, Adrian was leaving
the British Museum when he noticed
that his heart had stopped beating.
He cried out for help, and after
18 seconds, passed out.
---
Later......
.....Adrian and Elizabeth woke up in
ambulances. Don woke up in his
room. Katya woke up in a hotel room.
Smythe woke up in his hospital
bed. People started to freak out.
