ENTRY 20: AND NOW, OUR TROUBLES BEGIN...
----------------------------------------
We join our friends in the Limestone district, fleeing the crime scene.
After awhile, Katya noticed a car following
their truck. It pursued,
and eventually rammed the back of
the truck, turning its lights on. It
started honking after Vincent threw
something back at it, puncturing a
tire. Katya slowed the truck down,
and the car pulled up
alongside. There were 2 white men,
waving, telling everyone to get
their hands up. Katya stopped the
truck, and Vincent dropped out. When
it became apparent that the man were
police officers, Katya drove
off.. (At this point, Elizabeth, Smythe,
and Adrian were in the
truck.) After a little while, Katya
stopped the truck and got out,
fleeing on foot in the Limehouse district.
Adrian drove to the
hospital, where Smythe was operated
upon and Elizabeth and Adrian were
apprehended and taken to CID headquarters.
Everyone got questioned, telling approximately
the truth but leaving
Katya out. (Though Vincent charmed
the interrogators by offering to
take their confession.) They remained
in jail overnight.
---
The next morning, Elizabeth got a visit
from MI5, and eventually told
him just about everything. His name
was John Hatcher, and she also got
some valuable information from him;
the police had been watching that
warehouse for weeks, and had found
an extraordinary amount of drugs
and guns in it. (Oh, shit.) Fortunately
or not, depending on who one
is, Elizabeth's father came in and
rescued her. He was not happy. He
told her some more about Katya (between
he and the MI5 agent,
Elizabeth 'knows' that Katya is a
high-ranking KGB agent, had a great
deal of contact with CPUK since arrival,
and had posed nearly nude in
_The Scoop_). He forbade Elizabeth
to see Katya, and wanted her to
stop all of the nonsense. She eventually
persuaded him to let her
remain in the house, researching the
cult, on the following
conditions: (1) No Katya. (2) No people
involved at the house. (3) If
she gets caught doing something illegal
again, he's not helping. (4)
Her monthly income stops when she
leaves England. He made it clear how
little he approved of her.... career
choices. Additionally, her Aunt
Emma warned her to stay away from
the Count. [On the bright side,
Elizabeth wasn't charged with anything.....
]
Adrian posted his own bail, and the
Church bailed Vincent out (they
were charged as being accessories
to Breaking & Entering).
---
Later that day, Katya attempted to
leave a message at her drop point
saying that it was too dangerous to
leave more. Unfortunately, it was
too dangerous to leave anything at
all, and an officer started chasing
her, blowing a whistle. In an extraordinary
scene involving jumping,
pursued, onto the back of an otherwise
occupied horse, and convincing
it to move where she wanted it to,
she managed to get a couple of
blocks away.
Unfortunately, that wasn't far enough.
Pursued once more, she decided
to jump in the sewer. She couldn't
breathe. After contemplating the
alternative, she jumped into the waste
and attempted to swim to the
next sewer grate. After a little while,
she passed out.....
....and when she woke up, she was thrown
into the back of a truck
(paddy wagon). After a while, it stopped,
and Katya heard one of the
men up front say to the other that
he wanted to 'have fun' with the
prisoner. The other went for some
cigarettes. He opened the door, said
that 'Emma' had sent him, and that
he was supposed to let her
go. Katya, relieved, thanked him and
walked by him.
As he hit her squarely on the back
of the neck, she heard him say that
it was a good thing his orders came
from higher up than Emma. A fight
ensued, and Katya eventually killed
him. She took her gun back, and
the keys to the paddy wagon, and left
through alleyways.
