ENTRY 17: THE PARTY
-------------------

We join our stalwart friends on the morning of Friday, 13 March,
1925. They are at the breakfast table, sharing their latest gains of
knowledge.

Katya had been working at the docks, and discovered some information
on the egypt murders: 2 white dock workers had been among the victims,
named Peter Cannon and Sam Loreman. They were murdered on separate
days; they were both day laborers in Linehouse square, and had been
hired by a swarthy Indian gentleman. They were known to hang around at
the Blue Pyramid, 'asking questions'.

Elizabeth shared her information about the books Erica Carlyle was
selling (that belonged to Roger); it was decided that the group would
purchase them, and ask Jonah to be their agent in the matter.

The group then hashed out plans for the day, and left together. As
they left the townhouse, a gunshot rang out behind them. Katya and
Elizabeth ducked for cover, and the others turned around to see a car
backfiring about 1/2 block away.  The license plate was 2132G; it was
a Ford. Katya and Elizabeth then saw someone slouched in a car across
the street taking pictures of them; it drove away before they could
see much more.

That day....

Katya bought drinks for dock workers, to no avail, and checked out the
British Museum.

Don talked to his shipping contacts, and found out that the Captain of
the Mauritania retired to the country with his young wife Bethany. He
then acquired a high-class Egyptian call girl for the evening.

Elizabeth sent some telegrams; to Jonah about the books and the
Captain about a visit. She then went to the RMV and bribed a handsome
young clerk for information on the car that had backfired; it
bbelonged to a Patrick Henry. She got his address.

Vincent inquired a bit more about the Blue Pyramid, learning that it
was in the middle of a bad part of town, and approximately 95%
arabic. He sent a telegram to Rome (salted with false titles as well)
inquiring about the Church's possible posession of Erica Carlyle's
books, and discovered that around once a month, a van pulls up to the
Blue Pyramid, gathers a bunch of people, and then leaves.

Adrian visited Mr. Gavigan at the Penhew foundation. He was originally
told he would have to wait a week for an appointment, but when he
mentioned Jonah's name, he was shown right in. Adrian told him that he
and one other person were under the employ of Jonah Kensington to "get
the story" about Jackson's death and what he was doing. Gavigan
mentioned that Jonah had spoken to him, trying to acquire personal
papers of Dr. Penhew, and that he hadn't given Jackson any clue about
whether or not they even existed. Gavigan thought that Jackson was
trying to retrace the footsteps of the Carlyle expedition. Gavigan
asked many, many questions: which cult Jackson had been investigating,
if Adrian had any suspicions, if revenge was a possible motive for
Jackson's death, etc. In exchange, he told Adrian that there was an
embarrassing element to the expedition: there was another member; a
negro woman (Anastasia Bune), and once in Egypt, she had taken around
3500 pounds from the group and then left. He didn't say much else,
other than to ask Adrian what else he had to go on. After the
interview concluded, Adrian did a little research upstairs in the
library, on the Hunt expedition. It seemed that Hunt was convinced
that there were undiscovered chambers in the great pyramids... he
didn't find anything.

After that, Adrian asked a rare book dealer about the books Erica
Carlyle was selling, and discovered that the group was being
overcharged by at least a factor of two. Elizabeth made sure to tell
Jonah that.

Adrian then ran into Katya (at the British Museum, where he was asking
about the books); they determined together that the Penhew Foundation
would be much easier to break into. (Well, duh.)

That night.....

Katya, Vincent, and Elizabeth started out drinking at The Lady Bast,
in the egypt quarter, and didn't find out anything. They decided to
check out the Blue Pyramid, to lay groundwork for more in depth
forays. Elizabeth and Vincent went in, Katya waited outside.

Don was there, with his call-girl. There was also one other caucasian
gentleman. Each of the three white parties enticed a dancer to stand
by them with money. Elizabeth and Vincent tip the bartender well and
get a hash - filled hookah. Everyone had a good time, though Elizabeth
and Vincent were a little annoyed with Don when he sent them a bottle
of absynthe.

Katya did not have such a good time, as she was forced to actually
take an offer. Everyone eventually left.

Saturday, 14 March, 1925.....

Katya and Elizabeth noticed that some of Elizabeth's personal effects
had been moved around inside the house. Elizabeth talked with
Margaret, and discovered that one of the houseboys had been injured in
a car accident the day before, and that a new one had been
hired. After talking with Charles, the capable butler, they called in
Scotland Yard. Just before officers arrived to deal with that,
Inspector Barrington called on Elizabeth, to tell her that her story
checked out, and to talk about the Egypt murders. She asked him to
wait in a parlor while she received the other inspectors.

They were Inspectors Henrinson and Bensley. In short, Elizabeth told
them the situation, and asked them not to apprehend the houseboy just
yet, in hopes of drawing out his employer. They were disgruntled but
agreed. After they left, the by now extremely paranoid Elizabeth told
Barrington what was going on, and asked him to keep an eye on the
other two Inspectors and the avenue of investigation they took. He was
also disgruntled but agreed to do so for two days.

At breakfast, Don recognized Katya's headband as a protection against
a 'flying thing'. Everyone noticed that the markings on the headband
matched those on the copper bowl.

Adrian went to the harbor master trying to find the owner of the yacht
and failed.

Katya tried to track the houseboy when he got off work. She discovered
his name was Godfrey, and followed him back to Peter Henley's
flat. She watched the apartment from the roof of the apartment
building across the street, and saw Emma Reeve through the window {the
KGB agent that nobody but Katya knows about}. Their eyes locked, and
night started to fall. She decided to just go down and knock on the
door.....

...and that's where we stopped.
