Dr. Adrian Cainsley

Dr. Cainsley was born into a
middle class British family in the
outskirts of London. He did reasonably
well in his junior studies -
enough to matriculate to the University
of Essex in England where he
proceeded not to distinguish himself.
Through a bit of luck, he was able
to acquire a small position in the
British Museum, more or less
apprenticing himself to a field researcher.
Eventually, Adrian hopes to
become a full fledged archaeologist,
which in the 1920's means he would
stay in London and read the reports
of explorers in the field and write
papers about their findings. Much
to his chagrin, _he_ was given a
position as a field researcher and
sent out into the wilds.
Dr. Cainsley has always been
a fairly nervous individual, a condition
that was not improved when he was
deposited into wilds of Africa. Even
worse, while most of his colleagues
were given positions in Northern
Africa, Adrian was given details in
Southern Africa, both placing him in
even more remote and wild areas and
reducing the possibility that there
will be much interest in his work.
Still, Adrian holds out the hope that
he will stumble upon a great discovery,
return to London in triumph, and
live out the rest of his days in a
comfortable chair reading about the
travails of others.
Until that time, Adrian is muddling
along as best he can. A bit of a
coward at heard, he finds he is often
the voice of (sometimes
unwarranted) caution and has the annoying
habit of continually poking
holes in other people's plans.
After joining the British Museum, Adrian participated in a
couple of digs under somewhat renowned
explorers before teaming up with
the current group. While he is definitely
closer to the current group
than he has been with previous dig
partners, he has never been
particularly comfortable with their
habit of going after sites which are
somewhat more "adventurous". (He is
especially wary of Katya whom he
feels does not quite display an appropriate
fear of death.)
